A practical food education programme for primary school aged children
Kidz in the Kitchen is designed to help children improve practical kitchen skills, as well as confidence with ingredients, via classroom and at-home learning.
At school
The classroom-based element of Kidz in the Kitchen consists of 6 practical cooking sessions over a 12-month period, with one session, each half term.
At home
At the end of each term, children will receive an activity box for at-home learning that includes
- a recipe card to try making at home
- ingredients to use (or a voucher to purchase them, where needed)
- information around a particular food topic (sugars, label reading, etc),
- fun activities to help educate children (and the family!) on healthy eating and diet
Which schools participated in our pilot programme?
Kidz in the Kitchen was piloted at three schools in the borough with funding from Young Greenwich. Find out how they support young people locally on their website.

What kind of feedback did we get?
I love this. I’ve always wanted to cook but I wasn’t always allowed as I didn’t know how. Being able to cook here has been great. All the food I’ve made has been great 😋. I’m a very picky eater and this has made me like more. I LOVE IT 🤩
